I have been running Mantry for 10 years. My email is in my instagram bio, it’s also littered all over the internet, my freaking direct phone number is on Mantry.com
I receive a stunning amount of spam cold emails considering the size of our company. You know the type with subjects like:
“Affordable SEO Agency — Guaranteed Results”
“Leaving anything on the table, Reggie?”
When you open them they sound like they were written by a cyborg and come with a hockey stick graph and Enron-esc growth numbers.
This is an assault on mental bandwith as the Menlo Park nerds would say.
Well, I found a solution.
The millisecond I detect a cold, spammy email I use text expander (god’s gift to people who never learned to type properly like me) and shortcut ;cold to trigger my auto response.
“Hi ____,
Same deal as to all sales people (I receive 10+ pitches a day). Expense a Mantry and forward your receipt to me and I’ll hear your 10 minute pitch. If not, please remove me from your email list.
Thank you!
R”
Boom, spam gets turned into a sales pitch in 2 seconds flat. Spam the spammer, pitch the pitcher, counter punch.
This achieves 2 things:
- It stops any follow ups dead (no buy, remove from list).
- If they do buy, they are vetted, I find about 7% take the deal and I’m more than happy to chat to someone committed to trying the product (keep in mind many sales people can just expense it). If you buy, I take the pitch seriously, you have my attention. Also imagine selling your product to 7/100 spammers.
