What’s With The Salt?
Now, we’ll get to that, but first a quick thank you. We started Mantry because all across America we saw talented craft food makers flying under the radar and wanted to help people discover their products and their stories. Last month we crossed $1,000,0000 invested in supporting 216 American makers and we appreciate every subscriber, gift, post and hashtag that made that happen.
Here’s what we promise:
- You will discover some of the most unique and talented makers from every nook and cranny of the country.
- You will cook better if you let the products do the legwork. The makers spend years perfecting their products, that’s why we send simple recipes to use the products, no need to fuss about too much
And now, what’s with the salt tin? Ok, read point 2) again…Want to see what we mean?
It starts with the most amazing salt in America.
Here’s the story, Jim and Darcy hand harvest fresh seawater from the pristine Gulf of Alaska (just outside a town called Sitka). Once the water is harvested, it is meticulously heated. As the water evaporates, the brine becomes more concentrated. That’s when the magic happens. A combination of science and skill result in beautiful pyramid shaped salt crystals. Finally they cold smoke the salt over alder wood harvested from the surrounding forest.
So Try this now! Grab anything out of your fridge, a tomato, a chicken breast, heck, chocolate ice cream… Sprinkle a little salt on there and give it a go, make sure you share.
(seriously stop reading and go try this)
Bam! You just had award winning salt, from the Gulf of Alaska and produced something unique from your kitchen with a story to tell. With any luck, you’ll get that 36 times a year. That’s what Mantry is all about.
O.K., enough small talk, crack a beer (there’s coasters in there somewhere) thanks for checking out Mantry, we hope you uncover some new favorites, learn a couple tricks then roll up your sleeves and get cookin’!
