An hour on the 1 train into the Bronx, Liebman’s Kosher Delicatessen, one of the last remaining dinosaurs of authentic Jewish Deli.
If there is any food more authentic to New York, I have not found it. The deal is you get yourself a pile of pastrami on rye, a matzo ball soup, a pickle, and wash it down with Dr. Brown’s Cel-Ray, a celery seed soda that pairs like a fine Barolo.
Whenever people ask, “Where should I eat in New York?” I send them to Katz’s, or better yet Jay & Lloyd’s, or Gottlieb’s, or here.
You can find almost any food in the world in New York City, but you can’t find this anywhere else.
